The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without one of their best players for a large part of the remainder of the season.

Winger James van Riemsdyk will be out six-to-eight weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, the club announced Monday. It marks the first significant injury during his tenure with the club.

Since joining the Leafs, van Riemsdyk had been one of the more durable Leafs. Only missing 2 games over the last 3.5 seasons.

In a corresponding move, Josh Leivo has been recalled from the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

Van Riemsdyk ranks second on the team in goals (14), and leads the Maple Leafs in points (29) through 40 games this season.

A six-week absence would mean he would miss 17 of Toronto's remaining 42 games.
