Versteeg's multi-deflection fluke goal helps Hurricanes down Penguins
by from on (#10G5S)
The Pittsburgh Penguins might have enjoyed a nice regulation win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday if not for arguably the flukiest goal of the season.
Forward Kris Versteeg gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 second-period lead after his wrist shot hit the stick of Sidney Crosby, struck the the glass behind the Penguins' net, and then hit goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury in the back, finally landing in the net.
The Penguins would tie the game 2-2 before losing in overtime thanks to a power-play goal from Jeff Skinner.
The Hurricanes' third straight victory sees them within a win of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
