Arizona Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for January, the league announced Monday.

Louis Domingue is the 1st #Coyotes rookie to be named NHL's Rookie of the Month since Peter Mueller won the award in January of 2008.

Domingue started 11 of the Coyotes' 12 games, compiling a 6-3-2 record with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage. His month was highlighted by a 26-save shutout in a Jan. 9 win over the Nashville Predators.

The rookie's strong play, since starter Mike Smith was sidelined after core muscle surgery, has kept Arizona in the playoff race, currently sitting third in the Pacific Division.

The 23-year-old is the second goalie in a row to win Rookie of the Month, as Anaheim Ducks netminder John Gibson took the honor for December.
