New York Rangers defenseman Keith Yandle had other ideas, though, rifling a seeing-eye one-timer over the blocking glove of goaltender Steve Mason to send the game to overtime.
It ultimately went to a shootout, where Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan shared the role of hero.
The win gave the Rangers 29 victories on the season and five in their last seven games.
