Alex Tanguay knows how to make a first impression.

The forward, acquired at the trade deadline from the Colorado Avalanche, introduced himself to the desert in fine fashion, scoring twice and adding an assist in his debut Saturday.

The performance puts Tanguay in his new club's record books. He's the first player in franchise history (going back to their days as the Winnipeg Jets) to record three or more points in his first game with the club, according to NHL Public Relations.

The Coyotes beat the Florida Panthers 5-1, and Tanguay admitted after the game that he was a bit nervous.

"Even though I've played for a while, this was a little nerve-racking," he said, according to the Coyotes' Dave Vest. "I got a little lucky tonight. Teammates played great.

"I know I'm not going to score every game but I want to contribute and help this team win some games until the end of the year. I was anxious to get going and to get to know my new teammates. Tonight I got to know a lot of them on the bench."

They like you already, Mr. Tanguay.

Antoine Vermette on playing w/Alex Tanguay: "He's a great player all around. I knew Alex and how he plays. Maybe that gave me an advantage."

Antoine Vermette had a night himself, scoring once, assisting on both of Tanguay's goals, and finishing with three helpers.
