Disney Research has created a hybrid hydrostatic transmission and human-safe haptic telepresence robot that is capable of carefully handling delicate objects, interacting with humans, and even threading a needle.
The robot uses a combination of pneumatic and hydraulic power for smooth and precise movement, and it is controlled by a human operator wearing a virtual reality headset with a feed from the robot's stereo cameras.
