We already wrote a whole post about the Biketopia Music Festival, but you really don't want to miss this. Bands touring by bike and playing shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday that are literally powered by audience members pedaling a power generator. How cool is that?
Bingo or Bust Alleycat - SaturdayIan of Bicycle Benefits brings Bike Bingo to Seattle for the first time.
Have you picked up your Bike Bingo card yet? It isn't too late to join Bicycle Benefits' July 15 - August 31 game. The card costs $2, but the discounts you get from visiting the bike-friendly businesses on the card are pretty great. Its a great excuse to hop on your bike and try out new places.
But if you really want to start your Bike Bingo off with a bang, meet at Gas Works Park 10 a.m. Saturday for the Bingo or Bust Alleycat. You can score a bingo card at the start if you don't already have one. The alleycat will feature bonus tasks not included in the bingo game.
10,000 people bike from Seattle to Portland - SaturdayThe 37th annual STP leaves the Husky Stadium parking lot Saturday morning. You can waive to folks as they leave or even volunteer at the start line (sign up online). It's pretty cool to see so many people starting such a long bike ride together.
More details from Cascade Bicycle Club:
Bicycle Sunday on Lake Washington BlvdIt's here! The 37th Annual Group Health Seattle to Portland presented by Alaska Airlines (STP) is this weekend, July 16-17. With 10,000 riders, the 206-mile Group Health STP is the largest bicycle event in the region and a lifetime goal for many.
The amazing journey between two of America's great bicycling cities starts at Husky Stadium at the University of Washington early Saturday morning and ends at Holladay Park in Portland. The route will once again feature exclusive access through Joint Base Lewis-McChord on beautiful, low-traffic roads. Most people make the fun journey in two days, but approximately 2,500 ambitious bicyclists do it in a day.
Full route and additional information available at cascade.org/STProute.
The Group Health STP is a joint fundraiser between Cascade Bicycle Club and Washington Bikes. In addition to supporting Cascade and Washington Bikes' programs, rider registration fees help give back to all of the partnering communities that help make the ride possible.
Cascade Executive Director Elizabeth Kiker said of the community support: "We simply couldn't make an event of this magnitude happen without support from all the communities we ride through. The hundreds of volunteers and thousands of riders and the countless amount of energy they pour into supporting the STP is what makes the experience so unforgettable-so we're excited to be able to give back to them where we can."
Of course, Bicycle Sunday is always a great time. If you don't have Sunday plans, now you do.
Did I miss anything? Post the details in the comments. And, of course, anyone can submit events to our calendar. It's free and easy.
