Cleveland Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant has been ruled out for the season with a pectoral injury after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, according to a team press release.

Bryant, who led the Browns in sacks last season, underwent surgery mid-July after tearing his pectoral muscle and was hopeful he could get back for part of the season.

The 30-year-old reportedly suffered the injury due to a freak weightlifting accident.

Veterans John Hughes and Nick Hayden and rookie Carl Nassib will likely compete for Bryant's vacant starting role in training camp.
