Report: Browns, Bryant's agent met to discuss salary after season-ending injury

The Cleveland Browns and the agent of defensive lineman Desmond Bryant met Tuesday to discuss whether the club would be willing to pay any portion of the $6 million in base salary Bryant is due this season, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bryant was lost for the season after tearing his pectoral while lifting weights in New York before the start of training camp. As a result, the Browns are not obligated to pay Bryant after placing him on the non-football injury list.

The outcome of the negotiations could have far-reaching effects on the league, as teams don't often exercise their right to not pay players who suffered season-ending injuries away from club facilities, usually opting to pay a part of their salary.

If the Browns decide not to pay Bryant, players might be more reluctant to work out away from their teams.

Bryant's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter that there was little progress in Tuesday's meeting, but that talks will continue.
