NASA's Earth Observatory has released data visualization of the hottest August in 136 years of recorded history. August 2016 was tied with July 2016 for the hottest month on record, and it continues an 11 month streak of record high temperatures beginning in October 2015. The animated graph charts the gradual increase in temperature beginning in 1880, and it uses data gathered by NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
