Sidney Crosby has officially been ruled out of Thursday's season opener against the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed.

Crosby, who was diagnosed with a concussion on Oct. 10, was able to skate on his own and practice with the team Wednesday, but has yet to be cleared for contact.

Crosby wants to play, but not at the risk of coming back too early.
