It certainly wasn't the start they were looking for.

The Toronto Maple Leafs stood still as the Dallas Stars stormed out of the gate with five goals in the first period Tuesday, en route to a 6-3 loss.

It's the first time Toronto's allowed five first-period goals since April 3, 2009 against the Philadelphia Flyers, per Sportsnet Stats.

Naturally, Leafs' starter Frederik Andersen was pulled at 11:18 of the opening frame, allowing a trio of goals on eight shots.

Despite a 43-20 advantage on the shot counter by the end of the game, the first-period onslaught was too large to overcome.
