The Edmonton Oilers have finally done it - they've got 80 points.

Eighty-one, even better, in fact, after a 7-1 thrashing of the goalie-less Dallas Stars, snapping a three-game losing streak.

It's the first time the Oilers have eclipsed 80 points since 2008-09, when the club finished with 85 points, but still missed the playoffs.

That's the difference this time around - barring a monumental collapse, the Oilers will play postseason puck for the first time since 2005-06, when they lost the Stanley Cup Final in a heartbreaking seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Connor McDavid scored the extra point for the Oilers on the evening, giving him 76 points on the season. He's tied for the league lead in scoring with Patrick Kane, who put up a three-spot Tuesday in Montreal.

Cam Talbot, meanwhile, earned his 34th win of the season in goal. To put that in perspective, the last time an Oilers team won that many games was - you guessed it - 2008-09.

Most wins in a season, @EdmontonOilers goaltenders:

40 - Grant Fuhr in 1987-88
36 - Tommy Salo in 2001-02
34 - @ctalbot33 in 2016-17 pic.twitter.com/EUuMUiJ73z
