The New York Rangers landed the big fish.

Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk confirmed on TSN that he signed a contract with the Blueshirts, which is reportedly worth $26.6 million over four years, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli. This gives New York arguably the best available free agent on the market this summer on an annual cap hit of $6.65 million.

Shattenkirk apparently left a lot of money on the table to sign with the Rangers.

Shattenkirk: "I envisioned myself being a Ranger from the moment I stepped on the ice as a kid."

The 28-year-old recorded 13 goals and 43 assists in 80 games split between St. Louis and Washington last season.

Shattenkirk becomes the Rangers' highest-paid defenseman and second-highest paid player behind only Rick Nash, and fills a hole left on the blue line following the buyout of Dan Girardi.
