The Denver Broncos didn't waste any time filling their need in the offensive backfield.

Just one day after losing Devontae Booker to a wrist injury, the Broncos signed free-agent running back Stevan Ridley, the team announced.

Booker, who requires surgery for a fracture, is reportedly expected to miss up to six-to-eight weeks.

With such a timeline seemingly putting his availability for the regular-season opener in question, the Broncos opt for a veteran to add depth alongside C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles.

Ridley may prove to be little more than a camp body, as he's bounced around the league and appeared in just nine games over the past two years. He was once a promising young player for conference rival New England Patriots, though, racking up 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore back in 2012.

Also in the mix for snaps over the summer is sixth-round rookie De'Angelo Henderson.
