Jets owner Johnson confirmed as U.S. ambassador to United Kingdom

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson will relinquish day-to-day control of the team after being confirmed by the Senate as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, according to multiple reports.

President Donald Trump nominated Johnson as ambassador June 22, but his appointment required confirmation from the Senate before it could become official, and received the necessary votes Thursday. Trump also introduced Johnson as the ambassador Jan. 19, but his nomination required further due diligence and vetting from the FBI.

Johnson has been a longtime donor to and supporter of the Republican Party and endorsed Trump during the election.

The Jets did not release a statement Thursday.
