The NFL Players Association has hit back at the NFL after the league accused the union of trying to "shame and blame" Ezekiel Elliott's accuser Wednesday.

In a strong-worded statement released later on Wednesday, the NFLPA said it "categorically denied the accusations" and asserted the NFL was again displaying its "hypocrisy" by trying to shift the narrative away from its failings with player discipline:

The NFL's statement followed a story posted Wednesday from Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports which revealed Elliott's ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson, admitted to NFL investigators she considered blackmailing Elliott by selling sex tapes.

It was also reported Monday, first by NFL Network, that Elliott filed an official incident report, alleging he was harassed by his ex-girlfriend on Sept. 5.

Elliott's appeal is reportedly scheduled for Aug. 29, and it appears the NFL and NFLPA will both attempt to win a public war of words in the interim.
