Aaron Donald's holdout from the Los Angeles Rams is threatening to extend into the regular season, league sources informed ESPN's Adam Schefter.

One source suspects Donald could sit out the entire 2017 season.

The star defensive tackle skipped OTAs, attended minicamp, but has yet to show up to training camp.

Drafted 13th overall in 2014, Donald is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal and the fifth-year option in his contract has already been picked up by the team. He's currently set to earn $1.8 million in base salary this season, a meager earning for one of the top talents in the league.

Donald may be ready to extend his time away from the team in order to lock up a more lucrative, long-term deal, however difficult that may be. Teammate Michael Brockers has stated that the holdout is "killing" Donald.

The two sides are said to be a fair distance apart from one another in negotiations. General manager Les Snead stated on Friday that there has been "not any movement" in talks, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reported, but the Rams remain optimistic about retaining Donald long term.

"There is hope. There's hope that he'll be a Ram a long time," Snead said, according to Sean Wagner-McGough of CBS Sports.
