Geno Smith's near perfect preseason finish should lock up roster spot
On his old team, Geno Smith would have been deemed too valuable to get much action in the preseason finale - but things are very different now that he's a member of the New York Giants.
In a fight for a roster spot, Smith was leaving it all out on the field on Thursday.
Smith completed his first five passing attempts for 60 yards, capped by a 25-yard touchdown missile to Matt LaCosse that should show coaches he still has a chance to be a productive player.
Smith finished the game completing 10-of-11 passes for 111 yards with one touchdown and no turnovers.
The 26-year-old has been competing with veteran Josh Johnson and rookie Davis Webb for the Giants' backup quarterback job. Entering Thursday's game, he had yet to throw a preseason touchdown through three contests, but his performance against the New England Patriots looks to be giving him a shot at sticking around.
