Saints' Dorenbos diagnosed with aortic aneurysm, requires immediate surgery

New Orleans Saints long snapper Jon Dorenbos was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and requires immediate surgery, according to head coach Sean Payton. He'll be placed on the NFL's non-football injury list.

Saints doctor John Amoss discovered the condition while going through Dorenbos' second physical with the team.

"Dr. Amoss is the one that discovered it, and basically saved his life with the findings. He's had further tests and evaluations, and we met twice yesterday. Certainly, news like this is a big alert for him," said Payton, according to Joel Erickson of the New Orleans Advocate.

Dorenbos, a 15-year NFL veteran, was acquired by the Saints in exchange for a 2019 seventh-round pick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 28.

Erickson adds that Payton said the pre-existing condition will cause the trade to be rescinded.

The Saints will bring in a handful of players for tryouts Friday to replace Dorenbos on the roster.
