Saints' Payton joins competition committee
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is joining the NFL's competition committee, he announced Friday.
"It's an honor to be named to the NFL Competition Committee," Payton said in a statement, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN. "The challenges that annually face the committee are certainly significant and they merit thoughtful, open dialogues and well-reasoned resolutions when needed. I look forward to making contributions to this great game and working closely with my fellow competition committee members."
Payton joins three other head coaches, Marvin Lewis, Mike Tomlin, and Bruce Arians, who are also members of the committee.
The 53-year-old's inclusion to the group will no doubt raise a few eyebrows, after the league suspended Payton for the entire 2012 campaign when they concluded the Saints had a bounty program for opponents injuries.
Payton has been vocal about certain rule changes in the past, voicing his opinion on kickoffs and overtime.
