The New England Patriots agreed to a two-year contract extension with linebacker Kyle Van Noy, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Van Noy was acquired by New England in an October 2016 trade with the Detroit Lions, helping the AFC juggernaut capture Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons.
He's expected to play a larger role on the Patriots' defense, which struggled immensely during Thursday's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 26-year-old recorded six tackles in the 42-27 loss.
