Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett has been in communication with former U.S. President Barack Obama regarding issues of social justice, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The lines of communication between the two have been open even before Bennett had his public run-in with Las Vegas police. Bennett said he was racially profiled and assaulted in an incident in August. The police department has since asked the NFL to investigate Bennett's allegations, but the league responded that there were no grounds for an investigation.

Bennett is one of the league's most socially conscious athletes. He often spends portions of his time during the offseason tending to charitable causes.

Bennett also sat during the national anthem in the preseason as a protest of racial inequality in America.
