NFL, NFLPA meet to discuss importance of social activism
Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich, and New York Jets linebacker DeMario Davis were among the players in attendance at the NFL and NFLPA meeting on Tuesday to discuss the importance of social activism, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The NFL and NFLPA released a joint statement regarding their role in social activism:
The NFL and NFLPA met today to discuss the important issue of social activism by NFL players. Roger Goodell, DeMaurice Smith, Eric Winston, Robert Kraft, John Mara, Art Rooney and other player leaders engaged in a productive conversation. We are all committed to an ongoing dialogue.
Players have formed a united front following President Donald Trump's statements to NFL owners to fire players who continued to sit or kneel through the national anthem, which started during a Sept. 22 rally in Alabama.
The Seattle Seahawks announced the formation of the Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund last week, in "an effort to create lasting change and build a more compassionate and inclusive society."
