Gase: 'No more excuses' for Dolphins' offensive struggles
It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Miami Dolphins' offense, and being shut out Sunday by the New Orleans Saints has head coach Adam Gase demanding improvement.
"At this point, the excuses are running out," Gase said, according to James Walker of ESPN. "There are no more excuses. It's either get the job done, or we will find someone that can."
The Dolphins also managed just six points the week prior in a loss to the New York Jets.
Miami is ranked last in yards per game, and quarterback Jay Cutler has only thrown two touchdowns this season. Gase didn't pin all the blame on Cutler, though.
"You only can make a throw if you're upright," Gase said. "So there's been a few times where we've called some things and haven't been able to get the ball up, whether it's a pressure issue or he's had to escape the pocket and had to lower his eyes."
Individually, Cutler took heat from fans and media for appearing to give almost no effort on a wildcat play that saw him split out wide as a decoy receiver. However, the veteran quarterback said he was only doing his job.
"That's what they told me to do: Sit there, don't get hit, don't touch anybody, don't move," Cutler told Walker. "I feel like I executed that one."
Gase and Cutler worked together with the Chicago Bears, but the reunion has yet to produce decent results. The Dolphins will have a chance to right the ship Sunday when they host the Tennessee Titans.
