Mularkey: Titans didn't consider Kaepernick due to system unfamiliarity

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey says it was because of his team's system that they signed Brandon Weeden as a backup quarterback, according to Terry McCormick of Titans Insider.

Mularkey said he was unaware of any attempt to sign Colin Kaepernick because the free agent is unfamiliar with the Titans' offensive system.

The Titans also worked out T.J. Yates along with Weeden when searching for a new backup.

The Titans signed Weeden after declaring Marcus Mariota day to day with a hamstring injury. Mariota practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, and isn't certain if he or backup Matt Cassel will start Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

While Mularkey said his system is similar to those of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, many had felt the Titans could be a good fit for Kaepernick due to their ability to use Mariota's mobility.

Titans receiver Rishard Matthews said that he has spoken to Kaepernick and that the quarterback is working out, staying in shape, and still hoping for a chance to sign with a team.
