Nathan Walker's historic NHL debut got noticed by his home country's most powerful figure.
The Washington Capitals rookie grew up in Australia and became the first player from that nation to appear in the NHL when he suited up Saturday night. That earned him a phone call from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Sunday.
Walker was credited with a goal in his debut as the Capitals cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
As great as it was to see Walker get some praise from Turnbull, it would have been even better to have the Australian ambassador to the U.S., Joe Hockey, in on the call.
