Longtime NBC play-by-play commentator Al Michaels apologized for making a joke about Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein on the air during Sunday night's game between the Denver Broncos and New York Giants.

During the third quarter, Michaels said the Giants were "coming off a worse week than Harvey Weinstein" in a joking attempt to compare a barrage of football injuries to multiple public allegations that the executive sexually assaulted and harassed women.

Michaels apologized on air after the beginning of the fourth quarter.

"Sorry, I made a reference earlier before, was trying to be a little flip about somebody obviously very much in the news all over the country, and it was not meant in that manner," he said, according to Rob Lopez of Def Pen Sports. "So my apologies and we'll just leave it at that."
