NFL to look into Cam Newton declining required weekly interviews
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton declined to hold a weekly interview with reporters Thursday, a team spokesman informed Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
The NFL plans to look into the situation, a league official told David Newton of ESPN. Under NFL rules, Newton could be fined for skipping his required media availability.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said during his press conference that he wasn't sure what prompted Newton to bypass his session.
Newton found himself in hot water after a press conference earlier this month when he responded to a question from a female reporter by stating "it's funny to hear a female talk about routes." His comments were denounced and Newton apologized in a video released the following day.
