Jets' Forte questions offensive play-calling in loss to Falcons
The New York Jets couldn't squeak out a victory in a super-soaked atmosphere against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and Matt Forte wasn't at all happy with his team's play-calling.
The two-time Pro Bowl running back was criticial of offensive coordinator John Morton following the Jets' 25-20 loss, expressing his belief that there weren't enough run plays called given the game's conditions, according to Andy Vasquez of USA TODAY Sports.
"I only had four carries this game, so I don't really think we ran the ball enough with the weather being the way it was," Forte said. "I think that kind of hurt us."
When asked if Forte had thoughts of confronting his offensive coordinator during the game about getting more touches, the running back appeared to be critical of Morton's choice of strategy.
"No, I mean, it was pretty apparent to everybody," Forte said. "Everybody knows that was the game plan and that's what we wanted to do and I'm not going to get on the headset and tell somebody to do their job."
In total, the Jets ran 22 run plays with Bilal Powell leading the team with 14 touches. By comparison, the Falcons ran 32 run plays, but Forte believes the volume of plays on the ground should have been exponentially increased.
"We only ran the ball maybe 20 times, something like that (22 times)," Forte added. "It should have been at least one person getting 20 carries or something like that with the way the weather was. So I thought we were going to grind them out on the ground like that, but it ended up not turning out that way."
