NFL asked Kaepernick to attend 1-on-1 meeting with Goodell

The NFL invited Colin Kaepernick to meet with commissioner Roger Goodell one-on-one, but has yet to hear back from the free-agent quarterback, league spokesman Joe Lockhart told Jim Trotter of ESPN on Tuesday.

NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent extended the invitation to Kaepernick at the end of a text message in which he updated him on the ongoing talks about social issues between players and owners.

Players have reportedly requested a formal mediation session with the league over the protesting of social issues during the national anthem, and Kaepernick has apparently agreed to attend the meeting.

Lockhart added that the NFL would welcome involving Kaepernick further in the discussions between players, owners, and league representatives over social justice reforms.

Kaepernick - who was the first player last season to protest during the anthem - has filed a collusion grievance against the NFL after failing to find a new team following his departure from the San Francisco 49ers in March.
