Browns implode before halftime like only they can

If you enjoy comedy and live theater, the Cleveland Browns put on quite the show Sunday before the end of the first half versus the Detroit Lions.

The play

So, to review.

The Browns ran a QB sneak from outside the 2 with 15 seconds left and no timeouts.

There were 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter, and the Browns had the ball on Detroit's 3-yard line without any timeouts left.

For some reason, they called a running play - and not just any running play; a quarterback sneak. DeShone Kizer was stuffed short of the goal line, and hilarity immediately ensued.

Knowing Cleveland couldn't stop the about-to-expire clock, several Lions defenders refused to let Kizer get back to his feet. As a result, Kizer couldn't spike the ball before time ran out, and Cleveland went to the locker room without any points from their final possession of the half.

The aftermath

Head coach Hue Jackson was visibly frustrated on the sideline, while Kizer aimlessly pleaded with the officials. Running back Duke Johnson slammed his helmet on the ground, which resulted in a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty was enforced on the opening kickoff of the second half.
