Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is a favorite to become the next head coach of the New York Giants, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schwartz is likely to emerge as a hot candidate for head-coaching jobs around the league this offseason. He's spent the last two seasons building up the Eagles' defense into one of the NFL's best.

Schwartz served as the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2009-13. He compiled a 29-51 record, though he inherited the team following an 0-16 campaign in 2008. He led the Lions to the playoffs in 2011.

The Giants own a 2-13 record heading into the final week of the regular season, and could pick as high as No. 2 overall in the upcoming NFL draft.
