Players of the Week: Philip Rivers honored despite Chargers missing playoffs
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers moved to within one Player of the Week Award of tying former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson for the most in franchise history. He completed 28 of 37 pass attempts for 387 yards and three touchdowns. However, the Chargers would still miss the playoffs despite the 30-10 trouncing of the Oakland Raiders.
Safety Kevin Byard is the first Tennessee Titans player to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week Awards in the same season since Randall Godfrey did so in 2000. He recorded his third multi-interception game of the season.
Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is the first rookie in Pittsburgh Steelers history to win Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week Awards in an inaugural season. He took one of his two kick returns against the Cleveland Browns 96 yards for a touchdown.
NFCTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin captured the Offensive Player of the Week honor with his best game of the season, catching seven passes for 111 yards and the only touchdown of his rookie campaign in a win over the New Orleans Saints.
Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah tallied three sacks against the Green Bay Packers. He reached the mark in both of his final two games and three times on the season.
Matt Bryant won his fifth Player of the Week Award, joining Morten Andersen as the only Atlanta Falcons kickers to do so. He went 5-for-5 from field-goal range in the playoff-clinching victory over the Carolina Panthers, including a long of 56.
