Mularkey 'assumed the worst' about job security before Titans' win

Despite getting the Tennessee Titans into the playoffs, head coach Mike Mularkey admitted Saturday he may have been on the hot seat heading into Wild Card Weekend.

When asked following his club's massive 22-21 comeback victory over the Kansas City Chiefs about whether he felt his job was secure entering Saturday's game, Mularkey was blunt.

"No, I haven't had any support to say that I was (safe), so, no," he told reporters, as transcribed by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. "I just assumed the worst."

The third-year coach saw his club fall behind 21-3 in the first half before mounting an impressive second-half comeback to keep its season alive.

He called the talk about his job status leading into Saturday's game "ridiculous," and added that it affected his state of mind throughout the week.

"I don't think it's fair for my family. And if it has an effect on my family, it has an effect on me," he said. "So, yeah, I'd say it had a big effect on me."

Mularkey led Tennessee to a 9-7 record in the regular season. He's 20-21 since taking over at the helm midway through the 2015 campaign.
