Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles underwent right wrist surgery Friday for a condition dating back to December 2016 which required him to be on the injury report throughout the 2017 season, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It's unknown if the surgery will impact Bortles' ability to participate in early offseason activities.

Bortles helped guide the Jaguars to the AFC title game, but still faces an offseason of uncertainty.

The Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option, meaning he's guaranteed $19 million for next season if he remains on the roster by mid-March.

Jacksonville will have until then to decide whether to roll with Bortles for another year or look for an upgrade under center.
