The Houston Texans reached an agreement with defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, the team confirmed Friday.

Terms were not disclosed by the Texans, but Mathieu signed a one-year, $7-million deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mathieu was released by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday after refusing to take a pay cut.

The 25-year-old excels at slot cornerback and free safety, giving the Texans positional flexibility in the secondary.

Mathieu earned Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors in 2015 and was a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year before tearing his ACL.

During the 2017 season, he recorded 78 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and two interceptions while playing in all 16 games for Arizona.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt appeared to celebrate Mathieu's signing on Twitter by referring to the latter's "Honey Badger" nickname:
