Colts, Ebron agree to reported 2-year, $15M contract

The Indianapolis Colts have shored up their depth at tight end, agreeing to a deal with Eric Ebron, the team announced Monday.

Indianapolis did not disclose the terms, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the contract is worth $15 million over two years.

Ebron, a former first-round draft pick (10th overall) of the Detroit Lions in 2014, will hope a change of scenery sparks a rather slow start to his career. The tight end averaged a mere 47 receptions, 518 yards, and three touchdowns in four seasons in the Motor City. He's often been criticized, particularly in Detroit, for failing to live up to lofty expectations, and was unfairly compared to those selected after him, a group that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Aaron Donald, Ryan Shazier, and C.J. Mosley.

Ebron, who was released by the Lions on March 14, preferred not to comment on his time spent in Detroit, telling Stephen Holder of the Indy Star: "I'm really thankful for them blessing me with an opportunity to play. But I really have nothing to say about the organization."

Still only 24 years old, Ebron is expected to slot in alongside fellow tight end Jack Doyle, who is coming off a productive season in which he finished with 80 receptions, 690 yards, and four scores.
