The NFL's head of officiating Al Riveron informed owners on Monday that the proposed new catch rule would have made controversial rulings for recent plays involving Dez Bryant, Jesse James, Calvin Johnson, Zach Miller, and Kelvin Benjamin confirmed receptions.

That news wasn't received too warmly by Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones.

Bryant made an acrobatic catch in the final minutes of a 2014 divisional playoff game against the Green Bay Packers that would have put the ball an inch from the end zone with the Cowboys trailing 26-21.

However, infamously, the play was ruled an incompletion because, after showing clear possession of the football, Bryant bobbled it upon hitting the turf.

"We want to take these great catches and make them catches," Riveron said, according to Will Brinson of CBS Sports.

"Little too late," Jones said with a laugh, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Cowboys went on to lose that game by the same 26-21 score and have yet to advance past that round in the years since.
