Raiders release fan-favorite punter Marquette King

The Oakland Raiders have released fan-favorite punter Marquette King and veteran tight end Clive Walford, the team announced Friday.

Moving on from King frees up just under $3 million in cap space for 2018, according to Spotrac. King has already received interest from the Minnesota Vikings, a source told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

King had become popular for his social media habits and on-field celebrations over the past three seasons, and was also one of the best punters in the league, statistically. The 29-year-old had the third-best net average (42.7 yards) among punters with at least 20 attempts last season and was voted as a second-team All-Pro in 2016. He joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Oakland signed rookie punter Colby Wadman on March 16. He's now the only punter on the roster.

Walford was a third-round pick in 2015, but disappointed during his first three seasons, recording just nine catches for 80 yards over 13 games in 2017.
