Brees sues San Diego jeweler over perceived multimillion-dollar scam
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has filed a lawsuit against Vahid Moradi - the owner of CJ Charles Jewelers in San Diego - over purchases made that Brees claims were over-valued.
According to TMZ Sports, Brees claims he's made multiple purchases from Moradi and has spent nearly $15 million on items including watches, earrings, and rings. When he recently had his jewelry independently appraised, he was told his collection is worth $9 million less than he paid; Brees is seeking at least as much in damages.
In his suit filed Monday, the former Super Bowl champion claims Moradi insisted his jewelry's value would increase in value over the years. His largest purchase was a 4.09 carat blue diamond ring he bought in 2015 for $8.18 million, which was recently appraised at just $3.75 million.
Moradi's attorney, Eric M. George, fired back Tuesday, claiming Brees can only blame himself.
"Drew Brees aggressively purchased multimillion-dollar pieces of jewelry," George said, via TMZ Sports. "Mr. Brees' behavior and his belief that he was wronged because the jewelry did not appreciate in value as quickly as he hoped both demonstrate a lack of integrity and contradict basic principles of both economics and the law."
