Tom Brady addressed the widespread protests by NFL players during the national anthem, saying everyone's beliefs are worthy of respect.

Reporter Jim Gray asked him about his feelings on the demonstrations during a Q&A session at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday.

"You have to have respect for everyone's opinions. Sports for me has been the most unifying part of my life. Never forget that," Brady said, according to Curtis. S. Chin.

The anthem protests were kickstarted by Colin Kaepernick in 2016, and numerous other players rallied behind the cause last season with the quarterback out of the league. Brady never kneeled for the anthem, but he did participate in the leaguewide protests in Week 3, linking arms with teammates following criticism of the NFL by President Donald Trump.

The New England Patriots' star quarterback also succinctly described his thoughts on losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, which also dropped his Super Bowl record to 5-3.

"Last year sucked," said Brady.
