Saints' Williams opens up after Minnesota Miracle
New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams had an excellent rookie season until one catastrophic play grew to define it.
Williams, who starred for the Saints during the 2017 campaign, was memorialized on highlight reels everywhere after missing a key tackle in the final seconds of the team's 29-24 playoff loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs turned upfield, Williams made a poor read on the ball and was left sprawling on the floor in horror.
After a heartbreaking end to the year, Williams has moved past the moment.
"I don't really talk about that. But I'm doing good, the family's doing good. There's nothing really major going on in my life that's changing except for me helping these kids," Williams said via ESPN's Mike Triplett, making reference to his work with children at NFL Youth Education Town center in New Orleans.
Williams wasn't the only standout rookie for the Saints, with running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore sweeping Rookie of the Year honors. The second-year safety is expected to be a key component of a Saints defense that is looking to solidify a Super Bowl bid and Williams isn't going to be deterred by his infamous mistake.
"You always gotta push yourself to be the best you can be," Williams said. "Man, I feel like we can be great. We're a tight group. We're hanging out. It's a great environment that I'm in and that we're in, and I feel like we're gonna be a great secondary this year."
