Wilson: 'Definitely more on the plate' for offense under Schottenheimer
The Seattle Seahawks relied almost exclusively on Russell Wilson's arm and legs to put points on the board last season, and his insane workload partly led to the dismissal of Darrell Bevell, the only offensive coordinator Wilson has ever known in the NFL.
Brian Schottenheimer is the man tasked with guiding Wilson through the prime years of his career, and the quarterback said his new well-traveled coordinator is asking more from a mental standpoint compared to the team's previous scheme.
"It's definitely some added stuff for sure, there's definitely more on the plate," Wilson said, according to John Boyle of the Seahawks' official website. "We've always had a lot of information, but it's even more. But that's OK. I'm ready for more and more and just continue to see how far we can take it. I think we're going to have a great offense, I really do."
Wilson threw 34 touchdowns and essentially acted as his own running game in 2017, rushing for 586 yards and three touchdowns - both team highs.
The Seahawks drafted Rashaad Penny toward the end of the first round in an attempt to lessen Wilson's responsibility, but with the defense in a clear state of transition, the play of the veteran pivot will still likely determine how successful Seattle is next campaign.
