Giants GM Gettleman to begin treatment for lymphoma
New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman will begin treatment for lymphoma in the very near future, the club announced Tuesday.
Lymphoma is a form of cancer that threatens the lymphatic system.
"The doctor's outlook for the treatment and the prognosis is positive, and so am I," Gettleman said in a statement.
The 67-year-old gave no indication that he intends to step down from his post but acknowledged he could be limited in the amount of time he spends at the Giants' facility going forward.
"I will continue to work as much as the treatment process will allow, and as they know, when I am not in the office, I will be in constant communication with (head coach) Pat (Shurmur), (assistant GM) Kevin (Abrams) and the rest of our staff," he said.
Gettleman was named general manager of the Giants on Dec. 28. He served in the same role for the Carolina Panthers from 2013-16.
