Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson and quarterback Baker Mayfield have differing opinions on the rookie's progress now that the team's in its third week of voluntary offseason practices.

"I think he's right on schedule," Jackson said Tuesday, according to Pat McManamon of ESPN.

Mayfield, however, has a little more optimistic perception of himself.

"The pace has been a little bit slower than I've really wanted," Mayfield said.

Mayfield has been spending time with the second team during practice, and while Jackson said that it's a chance for him to work with different teammates, it seems to reaffirm Jackson's previous statements that veteran Tyrod Taylor will be the team's starter for 2018.

Mayfield said he'll accept whatever role he's given to begin the season, but he intends to make Jackson's final choice as difficult as possible.

"I have to be ready for whenever that opportunity comes, if that's this year, next year, or in five years," Mayfield said. "I have to be ready as soon as that comes, and right now, getting better every day. That's all I can do."
