Giants long snapper lost Super Bowl rings after leaving them on roof of car
We've all been there before.
Hands full, you place something on the roof of your vehicle, only to drive away, forgetting said item. Well, in the latest episode of "pro athletes are just like us," New York Giants long snapper Zak DeOssie did just that, with his two Super Bowl rings.
The 11-year veteran and member of the Giants' 2007 and 2011 championship teams left a charity event on May 2 and believes he left his two rings on the roof of his car. The rings are valued at more than $30,000.
DeOssie didn't realize his rings were missing until he got home. After filing a police report and retracing his steps, he recalled having a number of items in his hands when he reached his car and placing some items down temporarily, according to the police report.
"The next morning I got an email from a neighbor saying he found one of my rings underneath the remnants of what my Super Bowl box was," DeOssie told Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com.
"It looked like it got wrecked or run over at some point, or just flat-out fell on the ground. I went over to his house, gave him a hug and thanked him. The ring was in perfect condition.
His Super Bowl XLII ring for the Giants' first victory over the New England Patriots is back in his possession, but he hasn't been able to recover the Super Bowl XLVI ring.
He's conducted extensive searches with the help of detectives and his hometown but has yet to find the second ring.
"I'm hoping to get another email from a neighbor, but it's been (a month) at this point," DeOssie said. "Some people leave coffee on top of their cars, I unfortunately left my ring."
