Report: David Johnson skipping Cardinals minicamp amid contract talks
Arizona Cardinals star running back David Johnson will hold out of mandatory minicamp this week as his agent and the team discuss a new contract, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Johnson has one year remaining on his rookie deal, and is set to earn a base salary of $1.88 million in 2018. Schefter added that the sides are hopeful of reaching a deal before the start of the season.
The 26-year-old Johnson played in only one game last season due to a dislocated wrist, but was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2016 after racking up 1,239 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground along with 879 yards and four scores through the air.
He attended voluntary organized team activities last week, but was held out of certain drills while reportedly nursing a minor injury.
