Ezekiel Elliott's first two seasons in the NFL have been a roller-coaster ride. The Dallas Cowboys' star running back burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2016, but domestic violence allegations and a subsequent fight with the NFL over a six-game suspension dominated his sophomore campaign.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Saturday he believes Elliott's troubles have given the player a new sense of awareness, according to Clarence E. Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Jones added that he trusts Elliott as much as "he trusts himself," though he noted the 22-year-old still needs to be encouraged to stay on the right path - sometimes daily.

With Dak Prescott and the passing game in a state of transition following the release of Dez Bryant, Elliott will likely be asked to carry the Cowboys offensively.
