What if We Treated Public Schools as Monopolies?

If commercial monopolies are bad because their power gives them the ability to do bad things, it seems strange to treat government monopolies any differently. And if breaking up commercial monopolies is allegedly good for consumers, who benefit from competition between providers, I'd suggest this probably also holds true when talking about public school systems.
